Matthew (he/him) qualified as a psychosexual psychotherapist in 2011 after studying in Sheffield at the Porterbrook Clinic, going on to achieve an MSc in sexual and relationship psychotherapy in 2013. He has worked in the NHS since 2012 providing psychosexual therapy, initially in Sheffield and now currently full time in Lancashire with a caseload of over 70 individuals and couples.
Previously he has worked with Sheffield Medical School as a Lecturer and Co-ordinator of teaching, delivering lectures and seminars for student Doctors in order to teach causes, investigations, and treatments of sexual dysfunctions, as well as familiarising them with various sex aids and equipment, the general sexual language they may encounter in consultations, and how to take a relevant sexual history. He was responsible for part of the continued evaluation of the module, writing and marking examinations, and liaising between the Medical School and the Clinical/Module Lead.
In 2017 he earned a PGcert in the supervision of counselling and psychotherapy and since then has also worked as a clinical supervisor, supervising colleagues and students who he nurtures and develops through their clinical placements.
He was invited by the University of Central Lancashire to lecture on their MSc Psychosexual Therapy course in 2018, providing a full day annually of interactive teaching on working therapeutically with female clients with psychosexual and relationship issues until the course stopped running in 2023.
Matthew is a COSRT accredited psychosexual psychotherapist and COSRT registered clinical supervisor, and has recently qualified as an EMDR therapist helping clients to reprocess trauma.
